WHAT IS CHINGLISH?
A blend of Chinese and English, in particular a variety of English used by speakers of Chinese, incorporating some Chinese vocabulary or constructions.

How many Chinese Americans speak Mandarin?
10% Native fluency; can read and write Mandarin like a native, no Mandarin text is too difficult for them, also familiar with classical Chinese poetry/sayings/idioms, reading and understanding a Qing dynasty poem like below isn't a problem for them.
20% Intermediate to advance proficiency; they can read/write and able to consume Mandarin language pop culture, but struggle with academic/scholarly text. They are familiar with popular Chinese expressions/ idioms.

Analysis of “Chinglish” Phenomenon in the Translation of Chinese Public Signs
Public signs nowadays can be seen everywhere and applied in various public areas, the purpose of which is to provide some necessary indicative information for the international tourists or workers, facilitate their life and work, and also attract foreign investments.
However, not all the bilingual public signs are translated appropriately. the quality of current translation is not very satisfactory owing to some internal and external reasons, thus the consequence of this inappropriate language using in public signs brought about the so-called Chinglish phenomenon;
Chinglish is that misshapen, hybrid language that is neither English nor Chinese but can be described as English with Chinese characteristics
